Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit recently had its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like conventional body horror, but beneath Together exists a intense contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The story begins when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A commonly used story element, sure, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the two fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity begins influencing the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but never too gross) body horror, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his individual identity in Millie. This fear is amplified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that come with long-term unions after ten years. At their core, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the allegory never feels hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu now.
